Cheeky canvas is about the raw beauty and awe that is embedded in the human form.
Cheeky Canvas is the work of artist Katya Zubovskaya, a painter drawn to the quiet power of the human form.
There is something inherently captivating about the figure - its structure, its movement, the suggestion of motion within stillness. Katya’s work explores that tension, capturing moments that feel both composed and fleeting. Each piece is an exercise in observation: the curve of the back, the weight of a pose, the way light defines and dissolves form.
With a background in design and architecture and formal training from Pratt Institute, her approach is grounded in composition, balance, and spacial awareness. Now, largely self-directed in her painting practice, she brings a refined yet intuitive sensibility to her work - where discipline meets instinct.
The palette remains intentionally restrained, allowing contrast, shadow, and gesture to take center stage. These are not idealized bodies, but studied ones - present, dimensional, and quietly expressive. There is an intimacy to each painting, as though the viewer has stepped into a private moment.
The name Cheeky Canvas hints at what lies beneath the surface: a subtle playfulness within otherwise contemplative work. A reminder not to take things too seriously - even when standing in front of something that asks to be looked at closely.
Each painting is created with care and intention, meant not only to be seen, but to live within a space - adding depth, mood, and a sense of presence.
